We’ve all got questions, but often times finding the right answers to them can be difficult. True Knowledge, which launched its open beta November 7, aims to simplify factual information. The UK-based company released its natural language search engine in hope of providing appropriate answers to natural language queries; even if key query terms are not included in the data being indexed. By structuring facts in a way that machines and humans can easily comprehend, its tool is able to provide an intelligent response to questions without the aid of a human.
To break it down, one of the fundamental problems in Internet search is computers cannot understand the content of web pages humans have created. As a result, locating information in the early 21st century still involves a process of guessing which keywords may appear on an appropriate page, and then hoping the search engine retrieves a document that has the right information. Hopefully, this page is brought to the top of the search results and found reasonably quickly. As it stands, asking a search engine for information in the most natural way possible, doesn’t always produce a direct response.
This is where True Knowledge steps in. Their technology circumvents this fundamental issue by providing a way for knowledge to be represented in a form that computers can understand and process. The knowledge stored can be processed and understood by computers, giving users direct and perfect answers to questions on any topic. True Knowledge is a place on the internet where computers and other automated systems can query the widest possible domain of knowledge and receive a response in a form they can process.
Will True Knowledge give you the answer for the meaning of life? Probably not, but the way the Net is developing, it wouldn’t be too surprising to someday see a philosophical search engine that answered at least a few of life’s currently unanswerable questions.
