Eons is back in the news with founder Jeff Taylor giving the site a “face lift.” Apparently this overhaul entailed dropping the minimum age, and redesigning the site with new navigation and a new organization system centered on groups. This new search feature helps members find people with their same interests much easier than before. For example, if you wanted to meet other people whose first car was a ‘67 Mustang, you would have had a hard time finding them. Now you can though – easily.
What caused the change? Data revealed that most of the site’s activity was centered around the groups on the site, so that’s where most of the site’s restructuring energy was focused. Taylor also realized the obituaries section of the site was “dying,” so he is spinning it off into its own site called Tributes, for which Eons is the major shareholder. We’ll see how that goes. In fact, we’ll see how Eons cotinues to grow in general.
In theory, the idea of an over 50 social network sounds great, but in reality, it’s hard to compete against regular social networks targeted at all ages.
